MR OBAMA’S SPEECH ABOUT PEACE: Good media, but was it good?

Dec 12th, 2009 by Arnold Jago in Celebrities, Death, History, Politics, Truth

President Obama accepted his Nobel prize a couple of days ago. His speech seems to have pleased almost everybody permitted to speak on the media.

It was certainly eloquent, fluent – almost hypnotic. Mr Obama delivers his ravings like a poet. If it was in a foreign language, and you couldn’t understand the words, it might be a pleasant, rhythmical experience – something usable on a relaxation tape.

But with the words being in a currently-used language and being beamed all over the world, one is obliged to think about their meaning.

* * *

“Evil does exist in the world”

Yes, he has a point there. But does it follow that the way to fight evil is to invade other countries and set up corrupt governments?

* * *

“We lose ourselves when we compromise the very ideals that we fight to defend”

Mr Obama doesn’t explain what it means to “lose oneself”.

Jesus Christ said, “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and to lose his own soul.” Our Lord’s point was that the answer is “nothing”.

But what was Mr Obama’s point? His highest goal is for young Americans to enjoy “prosperity”.

That human beings are eternal and that their own actions will judge them, and that if they focus on worldly self-absorption they will spend eternity regretting their inability to access God without whom existence is hell – that is not what Mr Obama is talking about.

His viewpoint is diametrically opposed to – and incompatible with – the Christian viewpoint.

“The United States of America has helped underwrite global security for more than six decades with the blood of our citizens and the strength of our arms. We have borne this burden not because we seek to impose our will . . . .”

Please, mate, this is too unbelievable.

If he had said black is white, it would have been more plausible.

America not imposing its will? That’s less believable than the Pope not being a Catholic. A lot less.

One could perhaps quote, in this context, words attributed to ex-rock group lead-singer, John Kay (aka Joachim Kraudelat):

“Our cities have turned into jungles
And corruption is strangling the land.
The police force is watching the people
And the people just can’t understand.
We don’t know how to mind our own business
Because the whole world’s got to be just like us . . .

“Now we are fighting a war over there.
No matter who’s the winner
We can’t pay the cost.
‘Cause there’s a MONSTER on the loose.
It’s got our heads into a noose.
And it just sits there watching . . . .”

Words written 40 years ago. Now even more relevant — unfortunately – than in 1969.
