BATMAN BY-ELECTION: what about Kevin Bailey? Kevin who? some lateral thinking needed

Feb 21st, 2018 by Arnold Jago in Australia, Politics

The Batman federal electorate in Melbourne’s north faces a by-election on March 17.
For generations Batman was a safe Labor seat. Not now.
In 2016, the Greens managed 36% of the primary vote.
Labor’s David Feeney scraped home on (mainly Liberal) preferences.
This time there will be no Liberal candidate. The Greens could win.
Interestingly, the Australian Conservatives Party has a candidate, Kevin Bailey AM.
An ex-SAS soldier, Mr. Bailey was Honorary Consul General for East Timor from 2002 to 2013, a Herald Sun columnist for 11 years and has hosted radio talkback programs. He is also an un-embarrassed Christian.
He seems a better prospective MP than anyone Labor or the Greens can offer.
Perhaps also better suited to be Prime Minister than our present one.
That may have to wait.
Meanwhile, let’s hope Batman voters are smart enough to at least get him into parliament.
