TENNIS POLITICS: the thoughts of navratilova, court and goolagong

by Arnold Jago in Australia, Celebrities, Entertainment, Lifestyle, sport

Martina Navratilova was the world’s top woman tennis player for most of the 1980s.
Australia’s Margaret Court was top woman player for most of the 1970s.
Now they are both back in the news.
Last week Navratilova released an “open letter” suggesting that Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena tennis facility be re-named — because Margaret Court publicly criticises homosexual practices and says she will boycott Qantas airline (which promotes homosexual lobbying).
Navratilova wants the venue’s name changed to Evonne Goolagong Arena. She accuses Court of being “racist”.
All very interesting.
Evonne Goolagong herself told SBS last January that, “Margaret’s my hero — great player, wonderful champion and true professional in every way.”
