SCHOOL DAYS: the happiest days of one’s life? or not?

by Arnold Jago in Australia, Education, Lifestyle, Youth

Back to school?
Good news. You’ve been looking forward to it for weeks.
Good old school. Friends. Social life. Gossip. Idiots attention-seeking.
Judeo-Christian religion disappeared from the curriculum.
Replaced by the superstition of gender-fluidity with its yummy diet of emotivism, deconstructionism, utilitarianism and associated promiscuity-is-OK-if-you-feel-like-it mentality.
Not much to base real-life decisions on there.
Doesn’t sound very good actually.
Maybe get your mum to home-school you after all.

HATRED, “HATE-SPEECH” ETC. important words which we throw around too carelessly

by Arnold Jago in Australia, Ethics, Justice, Media

The other day, 3,500-plus people took part in an “anti-Trump” march in Melbourne.
According to one organiser, “We’re not marching as an anti-Trump movement per se, we’re marching to protest the hate speech, the hateful rhetoric….”
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Abu Mohammed, Australia’s Grand Mufti, wants section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act expanded to prohibit what he calls “hate speech” concerning his religion. In other words, he wants Australia to have a Pakistan-style blasphemy law.
No. No. The fact is, there’s nothing wrong with expressing hatred.
Some things we have got to hate.
Not people, but certain actions.
Think about childhood sexual abuse. Yes, punish the offenders — but don’t hate even them as persons.
God himself loves morally evil people — insofar as they are not completely evil.
He hates sin. He loves sinners.
We must try to do the same.

UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME: UBI’s the solution to all economic woes?

by Arnold Jago in Australia, Justice, Lifestyle, Money, Politics

Is it true that most (90 percent-plus) new jobs created are temporary or on-call work?
And that (what with robots etc.) one quarter of lower-skilled jobs will be non-existent in 20 years?
How are these millions of unemployed and under-employed persons to live?
Governments in various countries are thinking about trialling “Universal Basic Income” schemes — all citizens receiving thousands of dollars annually without any conditions — Finland, Netherlands, India and Spain for example.
Sorry. UBI schemes won’t succeed – they’ll merely cause sky-rocketing taxes.
Anyway, it’s bad for healthy people not to work.
Pope John Paul II said, “Work is a good thing for man…it not only transforms nature…he also achieves fulfillment as a human being…work is a fundamental dimension of human existence on earth….
“The Church considers it her duty…to form a spirituality of work which will help all people to come closer, through work, to God….”
A spirituality of work?
That’s something we need to think about long and hard.

PRESIDENT TRUMP AND RUSSIA: did Russia interfere in the US presidential election result?

by Arnold Jago in History, Politics, Recent Developments, Truth

Did the Russians interfere in the US presidential election result?
I suggest that they may have wanted to – but didn’t because they couldn’t.
When voting, US voters had already heard all about the alleged Russian goings-on….
Russians would, however, have been pleasantly surprised to hear that Mr Trump won.
Russia has reasons to be displeased with the performances of Mr Obama and Mrs Clinton interfering with Russian-related world affairs — for example in Ukraine, Syria, Libya, Poland….
Now some of these affairs might be sorted out.
Is it relevant that the Russian Orthodox Church holds a place in Russian life that neither the Catholic, nor any other religion has, in recent times, had in the US?
That, too, might change.

UNEMPLOYMENT, ROBOTS AND THE FUTURE: are UBI’s the answer?

by Arnold Jago in Common Sense, Justice, Lifestyle, Money, Politics

Is it true that most (90 percent-plus) of new jobs created are temporary or on-call work?
And that (what with robots etc.) one quarter of lower-skilled jobs will be non-existent in 20 years?
How will these millions of unemployed and under-employed live?
Various governments are considering “Universal Basic Income” schemes — all citizens receiving tens of thousands of dollars annually without any conditions — including Finland, Netherlands, India and Spain.
Obviously these UBI’s won’t work. They’ll simply increase taxes.
Anyway, it’s bad for healthy people not to work.
Pope John Paul II said, “Work is a good thing for man…it not only transforms nature…but also achieves his fulfillment as a human being….
“The Church considers it her duty to speak out on work…to form a spirituality of work which will help all people to come closer, through work, to God….”

A “spirituality of work” — that sounds like something we should think about long and hard.

SEX EDUCATION: here’s what you need to know.

by Arnold Jago in Education, Family, Lifestyle, Recent Developments

Sex education in schools need not occupy much time.
The basics can be taught in about five minutes out of the student’s twelve years in classrooms.
More detailed ramifications should take about another five minutes.
(1) The basics are covered in the first half of the following quotation: “God created man in the image of himself, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them…this is why a man leaves his father and mother and joins himself to his wife, and they become one body.”
(2) The ramifications are covered in the second half of the same quotation.
Other “gender theories” don’t really stand up.
Are there certain people who, for reasons related to their genes and chromosomes etc., don’t fit easily into male/female classification?
If so, their existence makes no difference to the truth of what applies to everybody else.
(Source of quote: the Bible, Book of Genesis, chapters 1 and 2)
